Ballands Bowmen is a long-established field archery club based in Penselwood, Somerset — one of the UK’s top clubs with a rich history dating back to 1970. The club wanted a modern, easy-to-navigate website that would celebrate its heritage while providing clear information for members, newcomers, and visitors interested in open shoots and training opportunities.
The previous website lacked visual consistency, structure, and accessibility. Ballands Bowmen needed a complete redesign that reflected its community spirit and professionalism, while making it easier for users to find essential information such as event dates, membership details, and location directions. The challenge was to create a site that balanced the sport’s tradition with a refreshed, engaging online presence.
I designed a clean, contemporary website with a natural green palette and earthy tones — inspired by the woodland environment where the club shoots. The new layout features clear page sections for Open Shoots, Training, Field Archery, and Club History, alongside a dedicated Members-Only area.
The site includes optimised metadata for improved search visibility, mobile-first responsiveness, and easy content management so the club can update pages independently. Attention was given to accessibility, image optimisation, and performance to ensure a smooth user experience.
The finished website provides Ballands Bowmen with a polished, professional digital home that captures the essence of the club — traditional yet forward-looking. Members can now stay informed with upcoming shoot details and new visitors can easily learn more about the club’s welcoming community and location. The result is a functional, SEO-friendly site that elevates their presence and enhances communication with archers across the region.
